Change your plans and then phone me

LoFi Phone Mic

I decided to make one of these telephone mics after watching bands like Japanther or Flagstaff's own Emowars use them. These bands got their tele's from payphones making them badass. I went out and bought one from Goodwill for $2. Mine differs in that I tried to use both parts of the headset for mics by using two separate plugs connected to each. This proved difficult in that the actual mouthpiece doesn't function yet. After asking some people I'm thinking the wires need to be active for that speaker and will require me to hook a battery to the circuit; like this fellas: TELE-MIC INSTRUCTABLES.

Though I'm happy with what I got now, it works great. To hear it listen to "Sorry Sari" on Chwelve's CLLCT page.

crotchet rocket

Not much of a DIY. Doilies are something you probably associate with your grandma. I happen to think they're quite pretty when used appropriately. I found these at the dollar store and sewed them to my plain green pillows. Gave them texture and a vintage-y sophistication (or grandma-y, you decide).

bands of heads

These fabric flowers are nothing new in the craft world (great intructions can be found here) and are so extremely easy to make that I almost feel bad posting about them. I saw some headbands with these flowers being sold for around $8 at a store in Cedar City and decided to make my own with some cheap headbands from the dollar store. I made more flowers and glued them to pins which could then be attached to just about anything. Headbands are expensive. Make your own. Unless you're Jeffery.

girls just wanna have fun (and steal each others sweaters)

These cardigans were once plain and boring until I decided to make them super girly by adding flowers and ruffles. I made the flowers (instructional here) from a toddler shirt of a simliar color I bought for a dollar at the DI.

My cupcakes bring all the boys to the yard

I love cupcakes. I also love pretty plates and other dinnerwear. I'm building a pretty big collection of random cups and bowls and plates that I keep only for the great designs on them. When I ran across this idea for a cake stand I got really excited that I might be able to put my clutter to good use. Not that I really have clutter in any form other than plates. I made these with cups and vases that I found at the thrift store.

Do these shorts make me look fat?

Since I think the right to bear arms is right up there with the need for light I decided to make these candles after seeing this. I made mine a little different though, instead of buying red candles I just took the shotgun shells and shoved emergency candles in them. Emergency candles are cheap and last a relatively long time. The particular ones I bought were from a dollar store and don't last as long as I'd hoped. But I like 'em.

it's okay to judge when the outside is made of paper

I spent all morning making paper dust jackets for some of the books on my shelf and I love how they turned out.

I got the idea from this book:

I'd tell you the name of it, but I can't read Japanese. Lucky for me paper folding pictures are a universal language. It does have a website that is also in Japanese, but if you really wanted the book I'm assuming this is where you could find it.

"I'm not gonna let anyone put me in a cage"

This is an old project but one of my favorites. I love bird cages. I want everything I own to fit inside of them. I also love birds. This "cage" is actually more of a hanging planter of some sort that I got from a friend who was throwing it out. I spray painted it and then went over it with a paintbrush to give it an aged look. I made the birds with this pattern and threw in some sticks from my backyard. I named them both Bennett. Maybe someday I'll be responsible enough to own a real pet.

I'd catch a grenade for yaaaa, throw my hand on a blade for yaaaaa

These are "milk glass" vases that I found at the DI for 50 cents a piece. Milk glass is a pretty white colored glass (and apparently it can be an antique -- forgive me for destroying it!) but color always makes life more exciting, so I spray painted them bright green. They look like grenades! I gave them to my mom for Christmas and she loved them. They are pretty on their own and without anything inside them.

and at last I see the light

I found this oil lamp at the DI for a dollar. When I checked out the woman at the counter gave me a funny look when I told her I wasn't planning to use it and just thought it was cool. Since then I've been using it to hold my spare change until I could find a substitute chimney for the top. My boyfriend pointed out that I could make something with paper (I just about pee my pants over anything that involves paper) and I formed a lantern with some Japanese print paper I had been saving. I got the idea for the decorative border here. It turned out so well that I decided to make a string of them and hang them on my wall. Looks Japanesey and I'm pleased with the results. :)

Lanterns make me want to sing the Tangled soundtrack. Or have magical hair that's as long as a football field.
